The Creation of the United States Federal Reserve

Originally presented at The Lakewood Public Library

Although the first part of the title sounds like another sequel to the Jurassic Park Movies this performance is actually a dramatization of the events that happened on a private island off the coast of Georgia, frequented by the likes of J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller and their ilk.

In 1910, seven members  made up of Congressmen and the New York banking and financial communities met in an atmosphere of strict secrecy for the purpose of  creating what we now know as the Federal Reserve System.   Our program will answer some of the questions resulting from this meeting – “Why the secrecy?”, “What did they want to hide?”, and “Why did it take three years to be brought before Congress for passage?”  The answers are both surprising and thought provoking.
